Tech Tools for Entrepreneurs

Alongside successful business owners is a set of tech tools that help them run their companies, communicate and collaborate, stay focused, and simply get things done. Here are some of my favorites.

EVERNOTE

If I want to remember it, I put it in Evernote. I throw in ideas, things I find on my Internet travels using the Web Clipper, blog post drafts, personal stuff, and more.

A simple web-based Pomodoro Timer that keeps you on track. Count down clock helps if you like a visual of time passing.

GOOGLE WORKSPACE

I love using Gmail, Google Tasks, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and other Workspace tools especially since they work seamlessly together.  I can add an email directly from Gmail to Google Tasks or enter a to-do while in Google Calendar. Time-saver!

ONETAB

I can’t live without this browser extension! I use it to save and organize multiple tabs (by date) into a single tab. That way, I don’t get distracted by a having too many tabs open.

RESCUETIME

RescueTime tracks how much time you spend on various apps and websites. And you can go nuclear by blocking distracting websites from all your devices so you can stay focused.

These tools do all the heavy lifting for me at work.

BITLY

Bitly is my go-to link shortener. It’s also a QR code generator, lets you manage Link-in-bio links, and makes it easy for you to track click-through rates.

CALENDLY

Calendly makes is super easy to share my availability so clients and prospects can book time with me. That means no more back-and-forth emails trying to “find a time.” Bonus: Automatic reminders!

Canva

If you own a business, you need visuals. Canva is a graphic design tool that lets you create banners, presentations, social media images, slide decks, templates, and so much more.

Constant Contact

Constant Contact was the first email service provider I used. From email newsletters to drip campaigns to surveys to social posts, Constant Contact has got you covered. It has since added more features like robust reporting, social media posting, SMS texting, and AI content generator.

Dropbox

Store all your digital assets in Dropbox like your Canva graphics or client contracts. You can also password protect docs that you share with others and set an expiration date. So many time-saving features too (like automated naming).

Freshbooks

Freshbooks is a cloud-based accounting software designed specifically for small business owners, freelancers, and self-employed people. I use it create estimates, proposals, and invoices for prospects and returning clients.

Google Translate

Google Translate is a  free translation tool that can translate text from one language to another.  Very helpful when you’re traveling, and if you’re a subscriber to my newsletter, you know exactly why I use it!

Scannable

Stop those receipts you have from in-store purchases from piling up. Scan them with Scannable (an Evernote app) and send them to your preferred cloud storage provider.

If you have a small business with a team of 5+ people, this app is for you. It’s one central location for employee onboarding, training, and SOPs. Game-changer.

WordPress

There are many options for creating your blog or website. WordPress is mine. I’ve used it for years. Even though I’ve pivoted a couple times, WordPress is still in my toolkit.

BLUE YETI MIC

It may not be the fanciest mic on the block but the Blue Yeti USB microphone hasn’t failed me yet! It’s a popular and inexpensive “starter” microphone for  podcasters and content creators like me.

CASTOS

This podcast hosting platform rocks. It’s super easy to create and publish episodes, and track your listenership. Their audio editors are on top of their game, too.

ZOOM

Use it for online meetings, webinars, and virtual events (like my Thrive-Hive meetups!). It’s also a simple way to record the video portion of your podcasts. Easy and uncomplicated.

These are the apps I reach for during my downtime.

AUDIBLE

I use Audible to get audiobooks when my library doesn’t have the book yet. Audible also has a nice selection of podcasts and free reads.

I use Balance for guided meditations, breathing exercises, sleep stories, and soothing sounds. I love that even when I use the same meditation more than once, it’s a different experience each time.

Did I mention that I’m learning Spanish? And Italian. And chess too! Duolingo’s characters, Friends Quest, Daily Quests, and overall gamification son divertidisimos!

This is the built-in health tracking app on my iPhone that lets me track all my health-related data. It’s not a fun app but it’s essential for me.

LIBBY

Over the last few years, I’ve had a reading annual reading goal. That’s where Libby comes in. It’s a mobile app that lets me to borrow books from my local public library for free.
