Welcome to our regular Transformers  feature (click link and scroll down to see them all).  A transformer is a thing that started out as one thing, has been rehabbed, and now functions as another thing.  A transformer can also be a thing that is really another thing all at the same time. Check out our latest find…

Did you have a skateboard when you were a kid? My brother did and he loved, it but when he got older, he gave it away. Donating is a great way to recycle them, but now, it’s possible to breathe new life into old skateboards in some very cool ways.

Skateboard as Jewelry

Lindsay Holmes of MapleXO is passionate about skateboarding and making sure that old boards don’t end up landfills. So, she turns them into jewelry. Here’s a look at some of her pieces:

Skateboard as iPhone Case

The iPhone Skateback came about from the partnership of Lindsay Holmes and the team at Grove. They’ve created an accessory used by just about everyone I know – an iPhone case. Each one is unique and has an adhesive that you can put directly on the back of your phone. And, it comes in three lovely colors: vibrant, calm, and neutral.

Skateboard as Wall Tile

The folks at Art of Board came up with the idea to create decorative tiles with old skateboards. Want to donate your old board? Visit i Ride to find drop off location in your area.

Skateboard as Art

Japanese artist Haroshi found his own way to recycle skateboards. He turned them into works of art.

…and Finnish designer Bjorn Holm turned them into surf boards.
