I love getting new products to review, and this month, I’ve received two to test out. Today’s review is brought to you by Rubbermaid. And, by that, I mean they sent me one of their newest products free of cost* so I could have a closer look. I know, awesome, right?

Confession: I’ve known about this product since April 2011 where it made its debut at the NAPO 2011 Annual Conference. I fell in love with the Rubbermaid Bento™ boxes but was sworn to secrecy (as were the other seven hundred or so attendees) since it wasn’t on the market yet. Well, now I get to not only tell you about them, but you can get in on the action, too.

We’re hosting a giveaway (yes, there are rules – scroll down) which means that you will get a chance to win a set of Bento boxes. But, first, my thoughts…

What I Like

Colors. I really like all the colors, especially Paprika. It’s bold and vibrant but if you want subdued, Bento also comes in two lighter shades, Chadwick (checkered khaki) and Loose Linen (light khaki).

Function.

Nest When Not in Use. The boxes nest inside each other (kinda like their Easy Find Lids food storage system). Did you notice that the boxes also stack? This is a fabulous way to store your stuff and make use of vertical space.

Divide Up Your Stuff. What you may not have seen are the flex dividers inside each Bento. The dividers are really the star of the show. They let you store your items together nicely in one box. Sometimes you just don’t want your stuff to mingle. Muddies things up a bit. These dividers solve that problem easily.

Durable. Another plus – Besides having a great texture, they’re pretty tough. They’re not flimsy so no worries about them falling apart…and each box has four little feet underneath. Nice finishing touch. I love it when companies pay attention to details.

Multiple Uses. And, just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, there’s another fabulous feature. The Bento Toppers can be used as a stand alone product or simply to cover your boxes.

The boxes also come in a variety of sizes for just about everything you have in your home or office. Try out the small boxes for hair accessories and see how well your file folders fit in the larger ones.

Rubbermaid Bento in Paprika

Green. The Bentos are CARB-certified MDF covered in durable polyester fabric. I didn’t know exactly what that meant, so I turned to my friend Google and found this and this. What I did understand: Rubbermaid is following the rules and that’s a good thing.

What Would Have Made Them Perfect

• More Colors. This is a new product so I’m sure more colors are coming soon. I’m thinking some kid friendly hues would be great.

Odor. There is a slight odor when you first open the package. My nose is super sensitive these days, and though it’s not unusual for your olfactory sensors light up when you open new products, my nose really wasn’t very fond of the whiff it got. Good news: the smell doesn’t last very long.

Ok, so on to the really good stuff! Here’s how you can enter to win your very own Bentos.

One section of my kitchen that’s always disorganized is the open shelving on one wall – these would look great there!  (P.S. I don’t subscribe via email for ANY SITE – to me that’s just inbox clutter. I do, however, subscribe via RSS! I hope that counts, since I’m still a subscriber!)

I would love to use this product to organise my medicines- my current container is lovely (albeit full!) and the compartments and layers would make retrieval a breeze, in addition to looking super sexy!

  • Maryann D.

Bento boxes would help my daughter get organized.  We just renovated her bedroom and she does not have furniture as of yet.  She needs this to help fix up her room!

My desk currently consists of random sizes and textures of boxes, including cardboard boxes and fraying fabric boxes. Not only does it look cluttered, it’s utterly uninspiring. The Bento boxes would not only insantly “up” the cheery appeal of my desk, I might actually be inspired to get more work done because of it!

By the way, can I just say how weird it is that Rubbermaid has trademarked a common Japanese term? I wonder how the Japanese feel about that?

  • Cathy Polachek

I would have a ton of uses for the Bento Boxes.  They would help me organize my coupon supplies I have in my kitchen and I would defiantly use them to hold all of my scrap booking items.  I had it all stacked in my daughters room while she was away at college and now she doesn’t dorm anymore (she commutes) it is all stacked on top of my sewing table.  Plus I know my daughters would love these to help organize their closets.

@openid-109668:disqus Hmmm…interesting point, Marjorie. I suspect there must be some wording that is specific to the product…and not lunch. ;)

A Bento box would be terrific in my living room to keep all of our books organized….we each read up to 3 at a time so they easily spill off the table, into the floor!

  • Jenn M.

I’d love to have them to keep books, mags, and papers in. So much better-looking than a mess pile.

I need bento boxes because I love read, crochet, cook, make jewelry and I love clothes! Please help. I also think my bills and other papers and my husbands tools could really use the organization. We want to have kids but our apartment is so small that unless we get organized, I don’t see that happening. Thanx for all your help!

  • Kellibored

This would help me be organized because I own a bath and beauty company and do alot of tradeshows, this would be perfect to house little items like makeup brushes, extra tools and etc at a show because it would only take up vertical space and allow me to compartmentalize within the boxes vs just a mish mash of haphazard things. so that when I am selling and talking I am not wasting soo much time looking for things and wasting precious selling time! AND they would be ideal to transport, so it kills two birds with one stone, able to bring product, show product and stack product during show. brilliant

  • Martha Boismier

This would help get grand kids toys and things out of corner. It would also help hubby to get his stuff nice and neat.Plus I can use this for paperwork, coupons to be clipped, cleaning supplies and so on.I soo can use this.Thank you for the chance to win.

  • Druzy

Thanks for sponsoring this contest!  These boxes look great and are desperately needed to organize my office.  Not only is the room used for an office, but the closet stores anything from clothes to high school and college scrapbooks.  Currently, the door stays shut at all times….no guests are allowed to peak in.

These boxes look great and I would absolutely love to win one! ^^ I work in an office all day for long hours and having something so well organized will help me keep the rest of my workspace the same way. Not only could they be used for my lunches (since I eat in most of the time), they could also help me manage my important files.

  • Kristen m
