My husband still has the saxophone he used to play back in high school. The last time he played it? Last never. If you’re like my hubby and have unused musical instruments laying about – and taking up valuable space – consider donating them to The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF).
The organization accepts gently used band and orchestral instruments (sorry, no guitars, pianos, organs, or accordions), and refurbishes them before giving them to under-funded music programs. MHOF was started by Michael Kamen, the composer of the film, Mr. Holland’s Opus (starring Richard Dreyfus).
“We believe that kids thrive when given the chance to learn and play music. Putting an instrument into their hands improves the quality of their education and their lives.” ”
