“Ms. Bourne [University of Wisconsin Eau Claire scholar],  monitored the lives of 10 women living in the U.S. Northeast from morning until night for a full work week. She found that although the women were generally passionate about their jobs and talked about the freedom of setting their own hours, they also struggled to shut work off…work ruled their lives…[they] arranged their schedules to accommodate work, prepare to return to work, or work leisurely during supposed free time…truly flexible work arrangements are a myth that is leaving female entrepreneurs conflicted and distressed.”

I, for one, call this progress. My mom’s job included vacuuming the living room. She vacuumed a mean living room; HOWEVER, she wasn’t turned on, even when the vacuum was turned on. If women are doing things where one doesn’t chuckle to call it their life’s work, that isn’t a BAD thing. We just need families to get the message to take CARE of their women members. If so, we’re good!

Oh, oh, That’s me!! I am ALWAYS on!! ALWAYS! I confess to sending some 15 or 20 e-mails while I was waiting at the Dr.s office! I am always thinking about work and I am always at work! It is almost always business but my business is my passion! And when its a passion its not work! Of course there are some guidelines and I can flip the off switch! When I am with my family or out and about with my daughters I am present and in the moment with them. For example, I don’t go to my daughters school play and discuss the fact that I’m a Jewelry Designer with another parent that owns a boutique in the hopes that we can close a wholesale deal right there in the school auditorium! If I am approached I exchange cards and suggest we talk during “Normal” business hours. There needs to be a balance, I think I have the family work balance down but I need to work on everything in between.

Hey Jane, I totally agree with you! My mom was an amazing seamstress, unfortunately my father and us kids were the only ones that knew about it! Sure she love being a stay at home mom and wife but her passion was in her art it was a shame that she never let the world see that side of her. Glad things are different and more and more women are taking the world by storm!! As long as our families support us we are all good and all happy!

I recently had the pleasure of not having phone service for a just about a week. Normally, I would be livid…except I was on vacation and there really was nothing I could do about it. I was such a relief that my phone wasn’t buzzing a million times with e-mails and phone calls. I actually had to pay attention to other things…like having fun! =)
